Hightlight from the Week: First Ladies!

Earlier this week I had the opportunity to go to the America's First Ladies Conference hosted by the George Bush Center.  This was an amazing event that was perfect for every American.

The first panel was historians discussing First Ladies throughout history and was moderated by Cokie Roberts.

First Ladies give us a model of politics focusing on civility...Building bridges rather than bunkers.

The next panel was made up of social secretaries to first ladies Lady Bird Johnson, Nancy Reagan, Barbara Bush and Laura Bush.

This panel gave a fun look at life in The White House including celebrity spottings!

The third panel were former White House photographers.

Finally, George Bush introduced his wife and mother for a discussion of their roles as First Lady.

"Obviously, I don't mind being surrounded by strong women. I was raised by one, I married one, and I believe we're raising two."

No matter what side of the aisle you are on, this was a wonderful experience and the Bushes were all super engaging, endearing and really love America.

Such a delight!

To end this post, I'll leave you with a poem Eleanor Roosevelt carried in her pocket during the War.

Dear Lord,
Lest I continue
My complacent way,
Help me to remember that somewhere,
Somehow out there
A man died for me today.
As long as there be war,
I then must
Ask and answer
Am I worth dying for?
