Well, if you have followed my blog, you know I’m a HUGE fan of Awards Season and an Oscar Party.

But this year, I’m not going to be hosting my annual party. I’ve been trying to make sure to see as many movies as possible and plan to watch, but hosting an event just isn’t in me right now.

Honestly, my professor has put me on a deadline to have my dissertation proposal finished by spring break, and sometimes something has to give. Of course, I hate to say that...as I like to think I shouldn’t have to sacrifice my fun for graduate school...but then I also know more fun is awaiting me once I’m finished! (PS...don’t think I’ve got too much sacrifice going on :))
I’m sure I’ll be adding in a few Oscar posts over the next few weeks, as I am slightly obsessed! But this year...no red carpet :(

In the mean time...here’s a little song I’ve been enjoying from one of the nominated movies...

Well, you know photo shoots are inevitable when Stacy, Amy and I get together (a few stunning examples --- here and here), and often things don’t go as smoothly as planned. While we normally hear “Good one of you, bad one of you” from Brenton and Jimmy until we have some version of success, 2 weekends ago at the House of Blues, one good picture proved impossible.

So, just so you don’t think we are always glamorous...

The library conference was in town over the weekend and so were some of my FRIENDS!!!

Friday night we dined together and went to a cocktail party together. So much fun catching up!

Dinner was at Enos Pizza Tavern in the Bishop Arts District.

It is sooo yummy!

Then, our friend Rosie got us cocktail party invites where we all one art except her...I owe her something fantastic!

Everyone else, of course was very happy!

These are my Obsessions: The Pillars of the Earth

I recently finished The Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett. I have been wanting to read it for several years, but just downloaded an audio version for my drive to and from San Antonio. This story is more than just about cathedral building in medieval times...rich with character development, this is a story of endurance, jealousy, ambition, bravery, revenge, and love. I was enthralled by lives, the setting and the story!

And just like always when I spend hours with characters who become my friends...when it's over--I'm sad...

But now I've found out not only is there a mini-series...

There's also a sequel!

The obsession continues!!!

A few years ago, I had the opportunity to visit the National Civil Rights Museum in Memphis. The location is the motel were MLK was assassinated. The visit not only capture the amazing life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, but also highlighted the boarder view of civil rights globally. The exhibits were extremely powerful and well done. If you have a chance, I recommend a visit to this amazing museum.

Chicken Soup for the Chick-fil-a lover

I do enjoy quite a few meals from Chick-fil-a.
Tonight, I decided to pick up soup and salad for dinner. (I'm a fan of their chicken noodle, and I am still recovering...)

Well, as I pulled up to the drive-thru I saw a NEW product...
Chicken Tortilla Soup!!!

From their website: Our hearty Chicken Tortilla Soup features shredded bonelessbreast of chicken, navy, northern and black beans in a whitecreamy base with a perfect blend of vegetables and spices toheat up your dining experience. Served with seasoned corntortilla strips.

Always up for a new menu item, I decided to try it (even though I hadn't read the above little write up).
It was delicious!
I recommend this soup for sure!

Christmas Eve, I fell in love with Waterford! At the Christmas party at Ryan's parent's house, candles, crystal and champagne were aplenty! And it was lovely!!! As I drank from my 12 Day of Christmas Waterford Champagne flute, I couldn't help but notice the illuminated bowls throughout the party. Well, then I was captivated!!! Let me share a little of my delight with you...

Christmas Recap!

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day went off this year without a hitch...which let's be realistic, isn't always likely!

Well, now that my cousin Sammie J is engaged, I will have to update you on all the fantastic details of her wedding year! Her's will actually be more like a wedding 1/2 year since she'll be getting married in July, but this will give us something fun to talk about for a little while! I love all the girl fun that goes into a wedding year...shopping, lunching, dressing up, partying :)

This past Sunday, Samantha, her mom, her sister/MOH and I headed out to scour the Dallas Bridal Boutiques for the perfect wedding gown! Sam is such a beautiful girl that of course, she looked great in everything. I think she's found "THE ONE" (besides Ryan), but we are going out on one more trip later this week. I wish I could show you the pics, but you'll have to wait until July for the wedding post :)

Holiday Party Kick-off and other Events of Interest...

This past weekend kicked off the holiday party season for me! Plus, there were some other delightful things to celebrate.

1. The highlight of my first holiday party of the season, besides the fact that I got to see tons a people I love, was the fact that someone brought their WHIP from home to help add a little life to the photo booth. (Sure, it was a Western Theme, but YIKES!!!) Now you know why I LOVE these people!!!

2. Cousin Sammie J got engage to Ryan! So excited for them! And let me tell you, she was thrilled! Her Robot Dance Friday night at the post-engagement celebration was one of the best moves I've seen in a while!!!

3. Well, since all the Christmas decorations are up at my house, I've now moved onto my iPhone. Wall paper, Ringtones...I'm ridiculous.

4. Tashies and I headed to Baby Eli's baptism on Sunday. Here we are with his sweet mom, Allison...one of our old roomies!

You know...it's the most wonderful time of the year!!!

Since it's the first day of December, I thought I'd start with a Christmas post! No, I won't be offering one Christmas post a day like Thanksgiving Facebook status updates in November.
But, I will delight you with a few pics of the decor around my house...which for winter is being referred to as The Cabin (in the summer, The Bungalow).

This candle - Winter Cabin - was the inspiration for the house name change. You can have your own Winter Cabin from Bath and Body Works It is AWESOME!

I love to come home at night, get in my comfy clothes, turn on the tree and enjoy the inside...that is oh so delightful!!!

DIY Super Cute Banner :)

For the 2nd Annual Fall Wine Tasting Extravaganza, the girls and I made 2 cute banners! Both have the same flags, but we used 2 techniques to put them together. Follow along here:

1. Select super cute scrapbook paper. (Finally, a use for scrapbook paper!!! Who's with me?!?!)

2. Make triangle patterns out of folders and cut them out. Trace triangles onto paper.

3. Cut out triangles.

4. This is where your paths divide.

You can either use a hole punch and twine

OR a glue gun and ribbon.

5. Both methods result in a Super Cute Banner!

Just a little hint of what this banner MIGHT be used for at the upcoming extravaganza...

Shhhhhh, it's a surprise :)

Last weekend my cousins Kristin, Samantha, Kristin's son Henry, and I all headed to the Dallas Arboretum to enjoy the pumpkins, fall flowers, and get in the mood for autumn. It was a little warm, but we had a fun picnic and were able to enjoy being outside! Here are a few shots from the day!

DIY Corn Garland

In preparation for the Fall Wine Tasting Extravaganza I was perusing some Etsy shops and came across this cute ~~Indian~~ Native American Corn Garland here.

Feeling inspired, Mel, Dedra and I headed out to buy the supplies this weekend to create something a little longer since we have the back yard to fill with festivities.

Materials:
Native American Corn
Twine (from Walmart)
Fabric Strips (from JoAnn's)

Procedures:
1. Find the cutest fabric and tear into strips.
2. Lay corn on the floor and spread out however you want (don't feel like you have to make a pattern).
3. Tie the corn to the twine.
4. Tie the fabric between the corn.
5. Hang where you like.

I think it turned out super cute, and I know yours will, too!!!

I have ordered mine, but it will be a few weeks! I have a 3GS right now, and while it's slow, it's not nearly as bad as the 3G. So, getting up at 5AM last Friday didn't really occur to me (I'm sometimes a little behind on being cool). By the time I got around to ordering it, it was 2-3 weeks before delivery. Oh well. My Friday isn't as exciting as some of yours...yet still, the idea that my new phone is on the way brings its a little bit of joy to my heart!

Oh, and the fact that it's Friday...that warms my heart as well!!! :)

Pops on Route 66

Before I headed to OSU, I emailed Lindsey at Sweet Simplicity to see if she had any tips on restaurants or shopping spots in Stillwater, OK. She gave me some great spots, including this one!

On my way home, I needed gas, so I decided to stop at Pops on Route 66. This gas station/ Soda Pop Ranch is located about 5 miles off of I-35 in Oklahoma on the famous Route 66. More info can be found here.

They have over 500 different kinds of soda pops and sparkling water. They provide empty carrying cases to fill with whatever variety you fancy. It was so fun to pick out some sussies to bring home to my roomies. I even found a bottle of Butter Beer (from Cooper's Cave Ale)!!! Can't wait to try it!!!

Last weekend, I went to Stillwater to visit Stephen at Oklahoma State University. Much of this post involves things that 22 year old boys enjoy, but I managed to squeeze in some girl fun as well...

Night 1:

I could have stayed at this bar all night...lighted palm trees, darts, a patio...but alas, we had to go somewhere that had "more people". Finding more people is what eventually did me in for college bars... I don't need more people, I need a patio and a seat!!!

The benefit of the college bar was the cheap drinks - $3.50 for well, $5 for top shelf! Yes, please!

This evening resulted in a some enlightening conversation with Stephen and Joran. Throughout the weekend, I noticed they kept mentioning the cute girls around town. Finally, at dinner I asked if they ever thought to ask the girls out (rather than just awkwardly chat with them and then walk away). The question from them that followed: "That actually works??!?!?". Yes, boys...if you like a girl, asking her out for a drink, coffee or dinner is the logical next step. Why not?!?! Well, after this revelation, they were totally inspired. Then when we went to the wine bar, they decided this was going to be their new spot to bring the ladies! A little lesson on wines they might enjoy and they were pros!!! The ladies of OSU can thank me by sending a bottle of that delicious pinot I was enjoying above!!!

It's October...Weekend Recap!

This weekend was low key, surrounded with friends, and just what I needed. Well, I also worked and did homework, but I won't bore you with those details. Instead, a few great things from the weekend:

Wireless and Wine: My cousin Sammie and I invented a new efficient happy hour titled Wireless and Wine. We needed to work on planning an upcoming family event. We needed some wine as well as internet access. We met up at Cork It! in Grapevine, TX for some wine and planning.

Brunch with the ladies: After sleeping in Saturday morning (very much needed since my eye was twitching like crazy this week) Mel, Shelley and I headed to brunch at Company Cafe in Dallas. From their website, here's a bit about the restaurant:

Yoga at the Nasher: The Dallas Museum of Art has a sculpture garden called the Nasher.
On the first Saturday of each month, free yoga classes happen in the garden...along with some other activities to bring in the community.

My cousin Sarah Beth happened to be teaching yoga this Saturday, so after brunch Shelley and I headed out for a class in the fresh air and sunshine. It was a beautiful day!!!

A couple of drinks with Some Guy in Austin and friends at the Broken Spoke, and I am hooked! I've got to take some of my Dallas peeps to the local Austin Dance Hall! So much fun! (You thought I was going to say I'm hooked on SGIA...well you know it's too late...I'm a faithful fan!) As far as the local celebrity ----DP, as he signs his post, was super welcoming and gracious.

As he promises on his blog, he is a true gentleman who enjoys his Lone Star beer and country music. It was a true bright spot in a rather boring trip!

So, this week, I'm back behind my computer catching up with everyone virtually. For all of my blogging friends...thanks for taking the time to share your life and a little piece of who you are with me! You know what they say...The World is Flat...and I'm loving sharing it with all of you!!!

Yes, that's one of my favorite Brad Paisley lines...mostly because I have a a friend who has worn a lampshade on her head, but also because every time I see a lampshade, I'm reminded of how much fun they can be!!!

So a few days ago when I was in Target, not for the Missoni Madness, but for other necessities...

My mom's 60th bday was this past weekend, so my aunts, a few of my cousins and I got together for a spa day, some shopping and some yummy food. Aunt Bonny provided some silly flair. We had a delicious cake from Nothing Bundt Cakes. And we got to enjoy lots of together time!

You know I'm a fan of girl's nights and The Spazmatics (the last time I saw them, as well as their greatness, is described here)...So Anica's bachelorette party last weekend did NOT disappoint!! We had a super fun night out and luckily, I had my camera! First the party, then some lessons learned! (There are always lessons, ladies!!!)

Amy's bday party was such a great idea! 20 of us spent the night traveling around Dallas to some very delicious and trendy spots! Not to mention, the group was super fun...until they ALL realized they had to get up with their kids early the next morning. Other than that...a great time was had by all!!!

Summer has come, and for me, is almost gone! I have been meaning to blog, but I have let one thing or another get in the way. Glasses!!!

Truth - I have had glasses for a long time.
Truth - I never wear them.
Truth - I am actually not sure where my old pair is.

I decided to go get my eyes checked this summer (part of my very long and not so exciting Summer To Do List!). So, I got some new glasses, but they are for distance only. In particular, while driving (at night). I don't have a restriction on my license, so it's not like I'm breaking the law by loosing my glasses for years on end.

Truth - I will confess that I did get a ticket in the mail this week for one of those darn red light cameras. Make sure you stop all the way, even if no other cars are coming, people! Dang!!! But I don't think that had anything to do with my ability to see; beyond clearly seeing the wide open space!!!

Anyway, back to my glasses...

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part 2!!!

Have you seen it yet?!?! I have -- twice! This weekend Stacy and I watched Part 1 on Thursday night and saw Part 2 during the day on Friday. Then last night after I returned to Dallas, Luke and I headed to the theater...him for his first viewing, me for an encore presentation! I loved it both times!!! I thought the pacing was just perfect; it was so exciting and tender all at the same time! I found the conclusion to the series brilliantly satisfying!!!

While the weather forecast might be raining, I can't say I'm too disappointed! Atlanta temps --low 90's; Dallas temps - low 100's. Even a little break from this July Texas heat will be welcomed!

Mad {Wo}Men

Last night I watched the first 3 episodes of season 1 of Mad Men (Thanks to my roommate, Melissa's Netflix subscription). I have to admit, I'm intrigued by this show. The setting, the characters, the advertising!

Natasha joined me for episode 1 and Mel for episodes 2 and 3. And there were multiple aspects that didn't sit well with us! Natasha was NOT down with the way the women were objectified, and pointed out that while it was a period piece, women are sadly often treated the same way today. Agreed! Mel was not a big fan of the main character's DB ways (affairs, getting drunk and missing his daughters bday party...). Agreed! And I just really didn't like the double lives!!! Scary!

Will I keep watching? Yes!!! Am I starting to feel a little old by examining the social commentary of television shows?!?! Yes!!! Thanks goodness there's a new episode of the Bachelorette on tonight so I can avoid all this thinking!!! ;)

I was once a librarian (fantastic!), and I met a ton of wonderful librarians...who became my friends! This year, the American Library Association held it's annual conference in New Orleans. Hello, I could NOT be left out of the fun!

Orlando Vacation Deals and Steals!

In addition to our 3 days of parks, we scheduled in 3 days of leisure time.

We also tried to save money were we could, so that we could do some extra fun stuff on our trip. Here are our money saving tips:

1. Stock up on food and booze!

The first day we arrived in Orlando, we headed to Walmart to stock up on items for sandwiches and snacks. We also bought some rum and wine. You are allowed to take food and water bottles (a life saver!) into the theme parks. We rented lockers to store our lunch. We also ate sandwiches on one of our pool days, as well! And we enjoyed our snacks throughout the week :)

2. Discount tickets are possible.

While at Walmart, we were able to purchase discounted tickets from the attractions desk. My research informed me that you wouldn't get much of a discount, but that you would get some discounts. We also bought our Universal Tickets from Undercover Tourist and had no problems. We didn't get our WDW tickets from them, because they only start discounting at 3 days and we were only buying 2 days worth of tickets.

3. Restaurant.com gift cards provided us with some meal discounts and some great dinners!

This was a wonderful tip I got from Mousesavers.com (I became obsessed :)). The site pointed out some Disney restaurants that participated in discount gift certificates at restaurants.com, as well as pointed out that there were other Orlando area restaurants that might be good. After some research and some patience, this saved us about $75.

Hope y'all had a great 4th of July! My weekend was full of fun...Friday night was bolsa with Anthony and Messina. It was delicious! It's in the Bishop Arts District of Dallas!

Saturday night, Luke and I headed to a Texas Ranger Game...There were real cowboys and delicious Lemon Chills (Thank goodness, because it was a HOT Texas night!)...Sad that the Rangers lost that night :(, but we did get to see quite a few home-runs!

The Fourth was a traditional, yummy cook-out and fireworks!

Now it's back to reality and some blogging catch up... Finish up Orlando, Pics from New Orleans and that's just June! Looking forward to more summer fun in July!!!

The Pumpkin Juice I enjoyed with dinner was my favorite drink of the day! I'm still craving it!!!

After dinner at the Three Broomsticks, we had one last look around Hogsmeade and one more ride through the castle! The evening was the best time to be there...Less crowded and without the sun blaring down, the snow on the rooftops looked like it belonged there!

For me, the WWoHP was too small. It's just one part of Islands of Adventure (a Universal Theme Park). We spent some time at the other parts of Universal, but we made sure to visit three times throughout the day. Some employees warned us that the morning was the busiest time, and they were right. Throughout the day the crowds got smaller and smaller. It was a great experience for sure! It's not often you literally get to step inside the world created in a book!

The vacation recap will now commence! I thought I would spend a few blogs on the different parks and then give a few additional insights on the fun trip! By the way, I'm also just back from New Orleans!!! I've got some details about that trip as well! So much to share... But first things first ---

It was actually Star Wars Weekend the weekend we went, so there were some additions to the normal activities.

This was a great park to start our trip at, but we really regret that we didn't get a park hopper that day (and hop over to Epcot). Two adults moved through the park pretty quickly. Overall, a fun park that you want to hit on your Disney vacation, but a lot smaller than some of the others.

In and Out in TX

In and Out Burger has come to Texas.

Tonight my roommate, Mel, her friend, Nathan, and I headed out to Frisco to try out the legendary California burger chain.

It was a packed house. Line out the door. Drive through line wrapped around the building.

It was delish. I ordered from the secret menu...Cheeseburger -- Animal Style.

Probably won't be a regular visitor, but it's worth a trip through as a (fast food) splurge!

Obviously I'm back from a week of vaca, but I have sooo many pics that need to be sorted through and reduced in size to be web ready...
